Wednesday January 26th

What am I doing to save money today: I am meeting my sister at Caribou Coffee and still plan on bringing my own mug savings of 25 cents. I looked at some free samples but nothing really sparks my interest so I am not signing up for any.

I think today will be a low key day. I haven't done any Walgreens or CVS deals this week. Walgreens has Omega/Fish Oil things free after RR and Maalox if you buy what seems like a lot so no interest in that stuff.

I would like to get to CVS for the free mouthwash (Crest ProHealth, spend $3.99 get $3.99 EBs) but need to see where I am sitting with EBs to roll into it since I am not spending any more this month as my budget will attest to. Looks like I should have checked the iheartcvs.com website yesterday. She had a link for a $10 egift card for $5. Oh well win some lose some.

I will look over the two websites I mentioned previously to see if there are any deals coming up I would like to do at CVS or Walgreens. Then I can start getting my coupons in order. Speaking of which I really need to go through my reusable grocery bags and take out all the receipts and coupons and organize them. (Both the bags and the coupons/receipts)

Tuesday January 25th 2011

This month I am working with a $400 budget cash. This will go towards groceries, my CVS and Walgreens deals, Target, Sams Club etc. It does not include: Utilites, Gas for the vehicles, Mortgage and other home associated fees etc.

So far this month I have stocked up on Toilet Paper (from CVS), Pop/Soda for Matt (also from CVS) and Fruit Snacks/Roll ups for the kids. I have also taken advantage of 2 Amazon $20 giftcards (for a total of $40 one for Matt and one for me) that I bought for $20 for both through the living social website.

Yesterday I was able to snatch up 2 $10 GCs to Papa Murphies, I paid $10 for both (again one on Matt's account one on mine) through Plum District. I should also get credit for bringing Matt to their website.

Now I only have around $10 and the change in my wallet to last the rest of the month. A few things I want to do are:

Go out for coffee with my sister tomorrow, Wednesday. I plan to save there by bringing my own cup and watching what I purchase. I will report tomorrow how it goes.

I also have a coupon book to Coborn's that expires on Saturday. I have 2 books since I have a PO Box and get coupons there. Here is a breakdown:

Cheese 8 oz blocks: .97 will get 4 of them: $3.88
Ramen Soup: $1.77 just one of them unless I decide to wait to go to Aldi's

Oh and MarketPlace has the Flavorite/Cub brand pizzas for 5/$10 so I need to get some of these.... Hmmm this may be challenging. I think my change purse may be getting drained this month.

Who I am.....

I have decided I can't compete or do as well as so many other websites and blogs but I can share my money saving experiences with anyone who wants to follow me. I have been known by friends and family to make a penny squeal for mercy, so here is what I am doing. I know many have no interest in following a ton of blogs or websites, so maybe my adventures can help someone else out.

My name is Carmen Gretton, I have 3 children with my fiance Matt, DS#1 is in 2nd grade and 7 1/2 years old, DS#2 is almost 5 and is special needs, then we have our surprise DD who will be 3 in April. In addition I have my stepson who just turned 14. To complete our zoo we have 2 cats, 1 puppy (10 weeks old, an adventure in and of itself) 2 toads and 2 turtles. Plus my mother is over here anywhere from 2-5 days a week.

Thus it is a weekly challenge to run our home as cheaply as possible. Let's add on the fact that Matt has been unemployed for 18 months and our income was drastically reduced. We were lucky enought not to live paycheck to paycheck but will need to replace his income soon.

I worked for Minneapolis Public Schools for 10 years but had to give that up when I had DS#2 and his challenges. I do sell some Real Estate but work mostly with friends, family and referrals.
